We have just been away on holiday visiting family in Bellingham which is in Washington State in the US. My mother-in-law suggested we check out The Bagelry to review for The Breakfast Page and it was a great suggestion.
Both my kids love bagels so this was a great choice for a family breakfast. The eatery is located on Railroad Ave in Bellingham, WA. A large store with a separate express line for food to go. There were a number of customers and but it wasn’t too busy although I imagine they get a big rush at lunchtimes.
The bagels are made fresh daily using the traditional method and this is clearly why it is so popular with the locals. Most bought bagels have a slight rubbery feel but not at the Bagelry.
Staff were very friendly and helpful and the dining area was clean with high celings giving lots of light and a spacious feel. It is a relaxed spot- perfect for all the family.
On the Menu
A wide selection of bagels, bagel sandwiches and omlettes were on offer, plus cakes and coffee were available too.
There was a brilliant range of different bagel types on the menu:
- Rosemary Salt
This made choosing very hard! A choice that was further complicated by the range of cream cheese flavours:
- Feta Garlic Dill
- Olive Pimento
- Cinnamon Walnut Raisin
Sesame with Cream Cheese
I decided to stick to the flavours I knew I liked so I could taste the bagel properly. I opted for a sesame with plain cream cheese. It really was delicious, the bagel was so fresh it was very bread like but with the perfect bagel crust. It really hit me how much better they are fresh than from the supermarket.
The cream cheesewas generously spread without overdoing it.
Olive Pimento on Cinnamon-Raisin
My husband opted for a cinnamon-raisin bagel with olive pimento cream cheese. He thought it was amazing and really enjoyed it, as I am not a fan of olives I didn’t harass him for a bite.
Both kids (3 & 5) had a plain buttered bagel. They really enjoyed them and my youngest devoured it very quickly with a huge smile on his face.
My mother-in-law had an everything bagel which had a variety of seed toppings. She also really enjoyed it.
Value for money?
A basic bagel with cream cheese was just $2.70 and I would say great quality making this really good value for money.
You can eat in or get take out making this a great spot for breakfast, lunch or a coffee stop.
Would I go back?
Yes I would love to go back and try all the different flavour combinations. Next time we are in the area we will swing by for a bagel but I fear that may be a few years off.
