The Dietbon plan is based around a diet food delivery service. All your meals are ready made and delivered to you at home. For each day you have breakfast, lunch, a snack and dinner. You just need to add some fresh fruit, vegetables and yoghurt. You also get one off day a week that helps you have flexibility around your plan.
Dietbon has gifted me one week of meals in exchange for this review however all opinions and words are my own.
Along with your meals which you get to choose you also receive a guide book – ‘My Dietbon guide to success’. In addition you get a monthly 30 minute telephone consultation with a registered dietician.
My Dietbon Consultation
I had a 45 minute phone consultation with Jenny about a week before I started the plan. I found it really helpful, she helped me get in the right headspace. We talked about not worrying about the past or feeling bad when we don’t eat well and to focus on making better choices.
I have been on many low fat diets and so have cut a lot of fats like oil and butter out of my meals. Jenny highlighted the importance of good fats in moderation. If we don’t have any then that is what our body will start to crave.
Jenny helped me to understand the Dietbon plan and how best to fit it into my routines. She was very helpful and afterwards I was looking forward to trying the plan and creating better habits for myself.
As a busy mum the thought of saving time with meals already prepared with 100% natural products that just need heating in the microwave was very appealing. I have also put on quite a bit of weight recently so wanted to get back on track.
I had one delivery which included:
- 12 Dietbon Slimming meals
- 8 Dietbon Fruit compotes
- 8 Dietbon snacks (lemon cakes)
- 2 packets of detox tea
- My Dietbon guide to success book
After reading through my guide I planned out my meals for the week and wrote it all down so it would be easy to keep track of what I could eat when.
For breakfast each day I had 1 breakfast product, 1 natural yoghurt (150ml) and 1 portion of fresh fruit. I had ready-made pancakes for my breakfast which was tasty toasted. I would also have a cup of the Dietbon vitalize me detox tea with my breakfast.
This was a good breakfast for me and I tried to vary the fruit most days so it didn’t feel like the same thing every day. I had apple, grapefruit, orange, strawberries, melon and pear.
Dietbon recommended I have lighter meals at dinner in the evening and a meal with carbohydrates at lunchtime. This was not usual for me but probably a good habit to get into. For lunch I had 1 Dietbon meal slimming meal with a Dietbon fruit compote.
The dishes just needed heating in the microwave so it was really easy. I had:
Ravioli stuffed with goat’s cheese pesto with a tomato and tofu sauce: I enjoyed this one, good flavours and a very filling lunch. It was interesting to include the tofu.
Whole meal salad: Mini farfalle with chicken and sundried tomatoes: This one is designed to be eaten cold so a great option for those who need to take meals to work. It tasted great and was generous with the chicken.
Roast chicken fillet with mashed potatoes: A very smooth delicate mash made with butter and cream. The chicken was soft and very tasty with good flavour. This was a great comfort food great for a cold winter day.
Conchiglie (Pasta) pacific salmon and spinach: This one was one of the least appetising for me but I am not a big fish fan. The salmon was a little dry but had good salmon flavour. The pasta was good.
Mexican meatballs with pasta vegetables and tomato sauce: The meatballs were good. A nice yummy dish.
Chicken fillet with rice and almond sauce: A light but tasty sauce, the chicken was also good.
I have been impressed with the quality of the meals, I don’t eat many ready meals but I would happily eat the Dietbon meals again.
To accompany your lunch you get a compote or dessert, this is an optional part of the plan. I had the organic apple and pear compote. It was just apple and pear pureed, a bit like baby food but this is something more common in France. It tasted nice but not a texture I am used to eating. I did like the fact that I had something after each meal and it felt like more than I would usually eat at lunch time.
The guide recommended to have your snack mid-afternoon. The snack consists of 1 Dietbon snack product and 1 low fat or natural yoghurt. As I often have an early dinner with my kids Jenny suggested that I save the yoghurt for an evening snack and just have the Dietbon snack in the afternoon, this worked really well for me.
My Dietbon snack was mini lemon cakes. They tasted good with a clear lemon flavour, they reminded me a little of madeleines. It was also really handy they were individually wrapped so I could take them out with me easily.
Dinner was 1 Dietbon slimming meal and 1 portion of raw vegetables with 1tsp of light vinaigrette. I am used to bland diet food so was surprised at the inclusion of butter and cream in the Dietbon meals. It was really nice to have the richer taste. For my dinners I had:
Spicy tomato and beef soup: I would probably call this more smoky than spicy but it did have flavour. The beef was lovely with soft small potatoes in the soup. A light dish with a warm flavour.
Creamy vegetarian carrot and coconut soup: I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one as I don’t think I have had the combination of carrot and coconut before. It was a light soup with a distinctive sweet coconut taste, it was surprisingly filling.
Moussaka with grilled vegetables: This was a good moussaka, the beef and béchamel sauce were both good along with some tasty aubergine.
Salmon with vegetables and grains and a soya sauce: The salmon taste was fairly strong with this dish and it needed the sauce to keep the fish and grains moist. Another filling meal.
Sautéed pork with diced vegetables and bacon: A tasty dish, the pork was well cooked and given a rich flavour from the bacon. The sauce had a buttery creamy taste which made it feel richer than most diet dishes.
Chicken tikka masala with rice and quinoa: I really enjoyed this one, it was nicely cooked with great flavour. The rice was well cooked and tasted nice with the quinoa.
Simple vinaigrette with citrus fruits and herbs
In the Dietbon guide to success there is a recipe for a simple vinaigrette which I made up to accompany the raw veg with my dinners. It was easy enough to make mixing up herbs and citrus fruits with oil. It did give a bit more flavour to the raw veg which was nice but I would also be happy just adding a squeeze of lemon on the vegetables too.
My Off Day
Built into the plan is one free day. This gives you flexibility to socialise and eat out. The off day gives you the opportunity to cook for yourself and continue with the healthy eating habits.
On my free day I went out for breakfast with a friend had chorizo hash. I then had a light lunch of salad with a fruit compote. I had my lemon cake snack with yoghurt as normal. Dinner was a vegetable stir fry with noodles, I also had a chocolate biscuit as a treat.
In the mornings I would have the vitalize me detox tea and in the evenings the keep calm detox tea. The herbal teas tasted good and make a nice addition. Although the tea is optional for the plan if I felt like I needed something I could just have the tea so it was a great addition for me.
My weight loss with Dietbon
After a week on the Dietbon plan I lost 5 lbs, I am overweight at the moment so did expect to lose. I didn’t feel hungry and was impressed at not craving more food.
I was pleased with the results and hope to continue the good habits that the plan has highlighted to me about planning snacks in and having good fats in moderation.
